A true classic perfume: Kiehl's Orginal Musk

It is a bottle I have seen a million times over the years and yet until recently I had never actually tried this little gem and now I wonder why! The Perfume I am referring to is Kiehl's Original Musk-$80. I visited Canberra on the weekend to take my new car for a good drive and to visit a gorgeous friends of mine Yasmin who had recently had a cute as a button bub who I was dying to meet.

This friend of mine is always so perfect with her appearance and whenever I come over I am always keen to snoop in her beauty shelves to see what she has been using and loving at the moment. One area which my friend excels in knowledge is perfumes, she really knows her stuff, I love them too and I think it really was because of her I finally realised that women really should own a perfume wardrobe to suit different seasons and occasions.

Since having her bubba she commented that so many of her perfumes are just too over powering now and so she has just been sticking to the simple and classic Original Musk. I realised that they don't call this perfume a classic for no reason, when I first smelt this perfume on her skin it smelt like a grown up version of Musk sweets but what I loved was how it developed on her skin and my god it lasts well.

Who the perfume is described by Kiehl's: Our special Musk “recipe” begins with an initial creamy, fresh citrus burst of Bergamot Nectar and Orange Blossom...followed by a soft floral bouquet of Rose, Lily, Ylang-Ylang and Neroli. Finally, Original Musk Eau de Toilette dries down to a warm, sensual Oriental finish of Tonka Bean, White Patchouli and, of course, Musk...the soul of this distinctively modern scent.

My gorgeous friend has given me little samples to take home to use myself and I think I have had it on my non-stop and I am loving it, it is the kind of scent where people go, wow I love what your wearing, who is it? -but no one can actually place it.
I will be buying a nice big bottle of this for myself and wearing it all the time as my new fave scent, I find it perfect for this Winter weather as it is as comforting as a warm hug or a mug of hot chocolate.

The bottle is divine as it is so old fashioned and antique which just makes it that little bit more special.

You can find this beauitful bottle by calling Kiehl's on 02 9326 9980 or visiting their counters.

Have you tried this perfume? What is your favourite "warm hug" perfume for Winter?

Perfume: Dolce & Gabbana- Rose the One

As the last present for my birthday from my boyfriends parents I was given a bottle of Dolce & Gabbana- Rose the One. I usually go for heavier floral fragrances such as Marc Jacobs Daisy so when I was given this it was definitely a different scent for me.
At first it appears very citrus with just a faint rose touch. As the scent develops on my skin I can detect the rose and a slight vanilla and musk and the result is a really refreshingly light perfume.

The tops notes I learn are pink grapefruit, mandarin and cassis which would explain why it smells so citrus. The deeper scents which appear later are of peony, lily, lycee and Bulgarian rose. The later scents are so soft of vanilla, musk and amber base.

This perfume is truly a delight to wear and is perfect for work when you need a light refreshing scent or to wear to brunch with the girls.

I was given this as part of a gift pack with a Body Lotion and Body Wash both of which are perfect to help you layer your perfumes for a big day or night out.

I generally only apply the lotion to my arms as I find this is where it is most effective, concentrating on the inner part of my arm where my wrists and elbow joints are as this is where the scent will blossom (get my rose reference) with my body heat throughout the day.

You can find this perfume: Myer, David Jones, The Perfume Connection and selected fine pharmacies.

Price: I got the largest which is a 75ml which is $159.

Need a new Perfume? Read this First!

I recently bought one of the deals on Our Deal which means I get a full price perfume for less than half price. What this also means is I need to pick a perfume. I had always been a girl who thought that having one perfume was enough. This changed recently when I visited my gorgeous friend Yasmin who absolutely loves her perfumes and definitley knows a things or two when it comes to what is available. She introduced me to so many amazing new scents that I never even knew were possible so I thought she was the perfect person to ask on what perfumes to try and to look out for when I am making my selection. Here I am able to provide you lucky readers with what she had to say. I actually printed this and will be taking it with me :)

Some hot and yummy perfumes right now are Mark Jacobs Daisy and Lola... they both made it into the top 5 sellers this year and they both have gorgeous bottles.
Balenciaga is gorgeous and violetty as is the new Love Chloe. I'm a fan of most Gucci fragrances though not that keen on their latest, "Guilty"

I love nearly all the Christian Dior fragrances... they are classics and their scents always seems to last a long time. J'adore and Dolce Vita are faves of mine.

If you want to go a classic like Chanel No.5 buy the Eau Premier version... they changed the formula to No.5 about 20 years ago and its a bit gacky now but No.5 Eau Premier is softer and more like the original fragrance that Marilyn Monroe used to wear.

Just remember when shopping for a fragrance to try it on your skin first... Sales assistants often try to give it to you on a piece of cardboard which is useless cause perfume reacts uniquely with every wearer.

Also if you want value for money go for an eau de parfum instead of an eau de Toilette. it has nearly twice as much actual perfume in it and so will smell stronger, last longer and have a more complex dry down.

Last tip: avoid the celebrity endorsed fragrances... apart from a few exceptions (Gwen Stefani LAMB being one) they tend to be uninspired crap with more thought gone into the marketing than the actual fragrance. Try to stick to the classic perfume or design houses or the more artisan collections.

I hope this helps you, I know it has massively helped me!
I will keep you updated with what I purchase.

What are your favourite perfumes at the moment?

Spring is in the air...

When it comes to perfumes I love anything floral. The only rule I seem to have is in the colder months I choose scents with tones of Tuberose.
Back to the reason for this blog, with Spring now here (yay!) I have been searching for a new fragrance and this new version of Estee Lauder Pleasures Bloom is exactly what I was looking for.
The official description says Pleasures Bloom is a luscious floral. The fragrance opens with notes of grapefruit, raspberry, lychee and violet flower and continues with vibrant florals of pink peony, rose, jasmine and green lily. The scent ends with notes of musk blended with a touch of patchouli and creamy vanilla. One word, wow! I could not try to describe it better if I tried.
It smells of everything that reminds me of Spring and is perfect for this time of the year.
The scent develops so beautifully on my skin and makes me feel so happy when I wear it.

The RRP is $100/145 and can be bought where all good perfumes live.

If your looking for a scent that can make you really feel like Spring then this is it!
