So you have a hot date tonight but you are as white as a ghost? Don't Panic! Get this!

So the guy you really liked asked you out or suddenly you have a event to go to and you realise with shock horror you are as white as a ghost!!! Don't panic! Here is what I do:
I grab my bottle of Model Co Bronze Airbrush Sun ($28) for my top half. Why? Well this little baby not only smells amazing with their signature frangipani scent but will pretty much instantly (well in 20-45 seconds) turn you a beautiful golden brown. In the spray are really fine little sparkly particles which make your face and chest illuminous!  (If that's not a word, it should be!) It even contains aloe vera to hydrate your skin, noice! You will be literally glowing!
Model Co- Bronze Airbrush Sun $28
My tip for when spraying on your face apart from close your eyes is to go in small circles so that way you don't end up all stripey. Also make sure you do your neck as that's an area which is often forgotten. I know this product is a little bit more at the expensive end but as I only use it for face and chest it lasts me ages!
The colour maintains really well and can be washed off with water (so this isn't really appropriate if there are clouds around- sorry!)
I then keep a slightly darker face foundation for occasions such as this and apply on top which means the colour looks more natural on your skin rather then just chucking on a darker colour to your pale skin.

For my legs I grab my second fave product, Sally Hansen Airbrush legs (see below) which I spray onto my hand and then rub into my legs. This amazing formula acts like a foundation for your legs and hides any little spider veins and marks.

Sally Hansen-Airbrush Legs- $24.95
And Voila you are ready to go you hot stuff you!

Just in time for the party season!

Baby you can light my fire...

Elume candle- $12.95
Now that I have my brand spanking new pad I am all about house goodies... I have mentioned before how much I love surrounding myself in beautiful smells.
With my apartment I am going with a real natural, raw materials, and earthy colours and beaches. One thing that remind me of the beach more than sunburn is the smell of coconut.
I actually came across these candles years ago and have kept the same one for a long time. Which was why I was so incredibly excited to find a homeware shop just near me which stocks their range!! Win!!
As the big fan of candles as I am I think that I know a good candle when I see one. I have seen some of these candles that are around the $100 mark and wonder how on earth they can charge those kinds of prices!!
That's where the Elume range came in. You can find more about them here. The company was started by Mark and Joelle Lavender who were searching for high quality exotic scented candles that they could produce for reasonable prices.
I always feel that you can tell a good quality candle by the smell and as you burn it, a good quality candle will retain its beautiful scent.
This sdent is my favourite as it invokes everything I want in the theme of my apartment. I bought 2 of them and you know what? I haven't even lit them yet and my apartment is filled with the most amazing scent!
I have seen these candles in homeware shops around so I guess what I would like you to take from this blog is to keep an eye out for these babies.
They are inexpensive, last for ages and have the most amazing smells.

They smell so damn delicious!

Mask or masque?

Clinique- Turnaround instant facial masque- $68
At the end of a long day I love nothing more then to relax in a nice warm bath with essential oils to relax and hydrate my skin and a masque on my face.
My fave that I have been using for a while now is Clinique Turnaround instant facial masque.
The beauty about using a masque when in the bath is that the steam from the hot water opens up your pours, making the masque more effective.
This product claims to deliver all the wonders of a mircodermabrasion, without the harsh irritation to your skin.
I think it feels very much like an exfoliator then a masque, I do have to apply quite a bit to get a "masque" on my face. That being said the smell is amazing and fresh without having a strong fragrance. My skin doesn't handle perfumed frangrances on my face.
As the product works its way into my face and I begin to rub it off the key here is to be gentle. The little grains work to get rid of the dead skin on the surface and increase the cell turnover which as I have mentioned before is so important. By removing the dead skin cells your skin will appear more even toned, which is especially great for when applying makeup I find and makes your skin appear so nice and bright which is what healthy skin is all about right now.
Here is a pic I took of the cream.

The masque

Notice all the lovely grainy particles
This masque can be used 2-3 times a week as it is gentle on skin. I normally use it once a week as a nice treat to myself.
If you have senstitive skin this will still be suitable as my skin just loves it!
Makes me really feel like my skin is clean and I really notice that my moisturiser goes on better, it's like my skin just drinks up my moisturiser.

What do you like to do to relax?

Gradual Tan not orangutan

St Tropez Gradual Tanner- $33.95
I recently did a little bit of shopping to start on my Spring wardrobe, and realised with shock horror when I actually saw my legs in a dress how flipping white I am!
I went to have a little wander around Priceline to see what was available. I have heard a lot about St Tropez in the past, but I guess for me the price was always a bit of issue. What I have noticed over the last few years is that I am paying more and more attention to tanning myself and thought it was time I gave it a try.
I am not quite up to using the full on tanning creams this time of the year (with the weather being this unpredictable) but I really wanted to take the edge off my "twilight" look.
What I noticed about the cream when I first used it is that it's white and smells like a very beautiful floral smell. They say on the box that there cream has that smell so it doesn't have the usual tell tale smell of fake tan. When I went to bed I actually noticed the inital floral smell had gone and did eventually smell like fake tan.
The next day I didn't noticed too much of a difference but over days I did notice I was really gradually changing colour.
For me I am usually quite hesitant about gradual tanners as they usually make me orange but not this one. You would think I had been out in the sun every day!
I know it is a little bit more than the rest that are out on the market but I honestly think there is good reason why these guys are a little bit more as they really are natural and this is what we all want!

I will be moving house into my new apartment so it's the beginning of a new phase in my life and I cannot wait.
Being close to the beach will be a breath of fresh of air.

I hope you can all take some time to relax and do something you want to do this weekend!

Below are a few of my fave pix at the moment.

Party hard and still look pretty!

Garnier Clean Sensitive Makeup Wipes- $8.95
With the weather getting warmer it means the festive season is just around the corner and that means party, party, party!
All the late nights and champers means we can all get a little slack in the beauty department myself included. Hence the magical invention of makeup wipes.
I have been a fan for donkeys years as they make my life so much easier.
I have tried many types over the years and the Garnier Clean Sensitive Makeup wipes are my number one and have been for a really long time.
I have mentioned before that I have sensitive skin and these just work a treat.
My fave thing about them is they remain really moist and don't dry out even to the last wipe- nice one!
They take off all my makeup so well and leave my skin feeling hydrated and refreshed after each use.
I usually purchase these from Priceline and they quite often are on special, and I can get them much cheaper! Noice!
I never wake up with pander eyes either these days, my pet hate look. Every time I see a girl with pander eyes in the morning I get a little frustrated at how naughty that girl was not taking her makeup off properly.
I keep these babies in my bedside table so no matter what I will take my makeup off which is a great tip for anyone.
I can't wait for all the parties actually... excited much?

Smelling like Summer...

Cocoa Butter- $7.50
I am all about smelling so yummy I am good enough to eat, well almost! I have this thing about having all parts of me smelling delicious and this Palmers cocoa butter has been high on my rotation of products for what seems like a million years.
I am sure so many of you have tried this before. I find the cream a great consistency that really keeps my skin hydrated and oh the smell, if I could run away to a tropical island and marry it, I would! Well you get the idea.
My skin is quite sensitive too and I do not have a single problem with this cream other then needing to buy so many bottles and I really love to use it to help maintain my fake tan as it can counteract the fake tan smell you get sometimes.
It's cheap as chippies too, and can be found everywhere. I got mine from good old Priceline.
Right now Palmers are doing their good samaritan bit and have made a special breast cancer foundation bottle and 30c of everyone sold will be donated to the foundation. (Good one!)

I really think this is a bandwagon that if you haven't already jumped on you should definietly do it and right now it's all for a good cause!

And we should all smell great!
My lovely bottle

What is beauty sleep and are you getting it?

We all throw around the term getting our "beauty sleep" but for many of us that can mean so many different things. We are right in the aspect that everyone is different and we all function the best on varied amounts of sleep, but what I wanted to do today is to enlighten you a little on just why it is so important not to be scrimping on our sleep and also methods we can use to help us get some better zzzzzzz's.
Why we need beauty sleep

1. Helps your body to heal-As soon as you start to drift off to sleep you generally get an increase in your growth hormone, a lot of people refer to this as beauty sleep as the growth hormone helps your body to repair and rebuild body tissue like the muscle and bone. Your body uses this time to reboot so you are ready to live another day.

2. Makes your moisturisers work harder-Some of the active ingredients in our moisturisers are susceptible to sunlight and so therefore they work so much more effectively when used at night when you sleep. These include antioxidants and vitamins C and E.

3. Gives your skin a glow-When you sleep your body cools down about half a degree and this increases your circulation, the increase in bloody flow to your skin does wonders and gives your skin a glow. Conversely without enough sleep that's when your skin looks dull and pale.

Tips to get a better night sleep

1.Get to sleep at the same time each night- this will help your body settle into a natural rhythm and you will notice you will start getting sleepy at that time.

2. Avoid having a large meal just before bed-Your body needs time to break down big means and needs to do this before going into a resting state of sleep.

3. Start winding your body down before bed time- avoiding harsh lighting, listen to soft music and starting to relax yourself by having a bath. All these things will help tell your body its almost time to go to sleep.

Hope this helps,

You twist the product and it releases a golden pink liquid illuminiser, lets call it liquid heaven shall we? It also contains some amazing ingredients such as raspberry and chamomile to sooth your skin, sweet almond seed which firms your skin (nice one!) and seasame seed oil which hydrates your skin. Are you sold? I am!

What are you looking forward to buying?

Short & Sweet- Why Cleansing is so important

We all have heard how important cleanising your face is morning and night but here is a tip I learnt from YoungerYou which you can read more about here.

At night whilst you sleep your body your body continues to get rid of waste products through your breath, mouth, urinary tract and skin.

When you wake up in the morning those toxins are sitting on the surface of the skin and by cleansing in the morning you are removing those toxins, leaving beautiful clean skin.

Just something to think about the next time you think you should skip your cleansing!

Nail shapes explained!

Nail Shapes
As someone who invests a lot of time and money into my nails I find the trends and fr a long time I was a little bit well, vague. I found this guide from the Sally Hansen website in the UK which I thought explained it really well.
For me it depends on a few things as to what shape I have.
For example if I am having french tips I really love square but with colour I usually go oval and now I have read about Almond becoming more popular.
When I got my nails done on the weekend I got them square and a little shorter which I think it quite cute although I got the edges rounded as they can really scratch!

Do you really think about what shape you are making your nails?

No Spain, No Gain... New nail colour

No Spain, no gain by OPI
Good morning everyone! I went and got my nails done on Saturday and I was all set to go turquoise but apparently my nail salon does not stock the latest OPI range, how rude!
So I settled for this delightful colour being a purple which is my fave colour!
Although the image looks red it is actually a nice plum purple colour.
I also changed the shape to a rounded square, noice!

TGIF

W
It's that great time on the week where we count down the minutes til the weekend and feel like we have endless possibilities of what could happen over these next 2 days...

What will you be doing this weekend?

I will be packing up my life ready to move into my boyfriend and my new home together. My parents live on a beautiful property so I will be sitting in a paddock with the animals around me, saying goodbye to one phase of my life as I welcome another. I think it's important to acknowledge that phase and everything that came with it.

Then I will be getting stuck into packing! Yuck!
Have a great weekend everyone!
If I am over packing (likely) I might post a blog or 2.

Short & Sweet- Correct way to apply eyecream

Correct way to apply eye cream
I know all of you are all very good girls and apply your eyecream morning and night but what you may not realise is if you are applying it correctly...
This is just a very simple tip but when you apply it make sure you use your ring finger (next to your pinkie) as this finger will apply the lightest pressure to that delicate area around your eye.
What most people don't realise is that it is very easy to bruise the skin there so you need to be careful. Also, don't rub the cream in, pat it onto your skin. Just like the picture suggests.
As this area of skin is so fragile you want to keep it happy and healthy for as long as possible

Short & Sweet- Getting your grubby mitts off your face!

Do you find you get pimples around your jaw line or chin? The reason may not be hormonal but may just be a bad habit!
With so many of us spending hours if not all day in front of computers we often fall into the bad habit of leaning on our hands or just placing them on your face. All day they get covered in grit and grime and that dirt is going straight onto your face and causing these nasties we all hate!
I am sure this is a fact you all know but I just wanted to make you think more consciously about it as you may be doing it without realising!
Naughty, naughty!

Tomorrow when the war began...Review

Last night I went and saw the film adaptation of the book series by John Marsden "Tomorrow when the war began".
As a teenager I was a big reader and I must have read this series of books countless times, I loved the drama, the love stories, and the whole coming of age feel to the books. I definitely had high expectations because I loved the books so much and thankfully I was not dissapointed!
At first it was shaping up to be a little high on the cheese factor but luckily that soon died down.
The characters where really well cast in my mind and all played great roles. The effects were great and pretty mind blowing, the only thing that annoys me with series movies is you are always left hanging, wanting more!
I really, really hope this movie does well enough for them to make more of them as in my mind its the best aussie movie I have seen in ages!
The scenery is great and they haven't hammed up the Aussies accents or mannerisms too much either, it actually makes the characters seem believable.
Basically the storyline without giving too much away is that a group of teenagers from the country go camping and whilst away their country is invaded and all their families and friends are taken hostage and they decide to fight back.
I really enjoyed this film and desperately want to see more!
I would recommend to anyone!
I give it 4/5

My 5 fave celebrity bikini looks...

I find that as Summer gets closer and I begin to realise I need to up my fitness, celebrity bikini pics not only inspire me by creating near panic in my head but they also point me in the direction of bikini trends.
Here are just some of the millions of great pics.
Kim Kardashian
Miranda Kerr
Katy Perry
Lauren Conrad
Whitney Port
What I have learn from these pics:
  • Gold costume jewellery goes great with dark colours and apparently should be left on when you go in the water
  • White bikini can look good, just make sure you have a good tan (fake) going on first
  • Khaki Green is a great colour to look out for and fedora hats are great beach accessories
  • Turquoise is always a hot colour
  • Mix and match your accessories with your bikini and big sunnies are always a winner

5 Things I am lusting over for my new apartment...

As my boyfriend and I are moving into our first apartment together next weekend I have been dreaming (literally) of what I would have in my dream apartment. As we are still young, these dreams are far off, but are nice to think about for one day. Here are my top 5, if I could!
1. Kitchenaid Mixmaster- I love to cook and this is pretty much the platinum standard for any wanna be cook! They are rather pricey at approx $650!! But they will honestly last a lifetime, they have been around a million years and are well worth it.
Kitchenaid Mixmaster
 2. Set of Global Knives- I bought the 20cm chef knife of this set when I was working as a chef a million years ago and I have loved and worshiped it ever since! It feels amazing, has perfect weight and looks so professional. The entire set, that would costs a pretty penny considering one knife set me back $200!
Global Knives
3. Pretty Wall Mirror- I have been obsessed with these types of mirrors for so long and would love to one day have one in my home.
Beautiful Mirror
4. Coffee Machine- I do love a good coffee in the morning and god I would love to be able to make it in my own home sometimes.
Beautiful Coffee Machine
5. Stainless steel, upside down, double door fridge- This is my absolute dream! I love the thought of a massive fridge, it literally makes me squeal with excitement at the possibilities. I know I am so incredibly lame but I will one day own one, I just may need to mortage my then house to afford one, but oh I will love it!
My dream Fridge!
That is all, I don't think I ask for much... hehe

Tone the right way

Environ Alpha Toner Forte
Toning I think is the one stop so many girls (myself included, until recently) skip out on when it is so important!
I wanted to go over again as I am sure many of you have heard before the massive benefits of a toner! (I know this may make me sound like a nanna but it's for your own good!)
1. Cleans your skin deeper-Sometimes your cleanser will not remove all of the dirt and makeup off your skin, so this little baby mops up the bits you missed!
2. Makes your moisturiser work harder- So many of these amazing moisturisers that are coming out in the market contain active ingredients and there is honestly no point of having them if they can't penetrate through your skin!
3. Tightens your pores-In the toner I use it contains Alpha Hydroxy which exfoliates the skin to tighten and close off all those pours, which also means that dirt will have difficulty getting themselves back into your pours
4. Restores the Natural pH of your skin- Let me explain, the pH scale is between 1-14. If something is acidic it is measured between 1-6.9 and if something is alkaline it is between 7.1-14 and a 7 is neutral. If your skin is healthy its pH should be between 4.5-6.0 where it can fight off bacteria. (The bacteria is what causes acne as those little buggers get right in the pours and breed like rabbits!) Most cleansers have a higher pH so the toner aims to bring it back down to a healthy fighting level ready for when you slap on the moisturiser.
5. Removes excess oil from skin- for you girls that have oily skin toner really helps to get your oil under control by removing the excess sebum off your skin. Win!

When to use: I am sure you have all heard that you are supposed to tone after you cleanse morning and night and then you moisturise. I dab this particular toner onto my skin as it is very strong and is used to also help clear up the last of the nasties on my skin. A lot of people use cotton balls to dab it onto the skin.

I hope this has helped to explain what a toner is all about and why it is so important

My Journey to clear skin

A lot of women are constantly on the search for the perfect combination of skincare products that will fix all their skin issues. The problem most women face is that it's a never ending journey; this is where seeking the advice from a trained professional comes in.
Having had adult acne this past year, a lot of time has been spent getting rid of this skin condition and what were left were these little bumps which weren't exactly pimples that would not go away.
My Skin-April this year
Dee from the Clear Skin Clinic in Double Bay was to explain to me that these little bumps across our skin are very common and is caused by blocked pores. The cause of the blocked pores is the fat that is in a lot of commonly used beauty products.
Dee performs a treatment which she calls the "Steam and Squeeze" which has a very simple philosophy behind it.
First your skin is thoroughly is cleansed and then she takes a really good look at your skin under a bright light and to find out what is going on. After a light exfoliation is completed a mask is applied to your skin and then you are placed under a steamer. When your pores are nice and open, this is where her work truly begins. All those blocked pores she has identified are then manually unplugged using her fingers covered in tissues. It is not a relaxing experience but a rewarding one. With pores that are very deep they are lanceted which is like a pin prick and then squeezed.
Once the squeezing is all done a chemical peel which is tailored to your skin type is then applied to your skin. After all the squeezing, the peel definitely stings but that doesn't last long as your skin begins to calm down. As the peel is wiped off a deeply moisturising cream which is water based and doesn't contain fats is then applied to your skin and you are done.
Dee likes to tailor your new skin care regime which she calls your prescription of a cleanser, toner and moisturiser which will enhance the work that she has done.
My products recommended are Environ Interactive Cleansing Gel $35, Environ Alpha Toner Forte $67 and Dr Spiller Biocosmetic Collagen Face Cream $114 which I have blogged about before.
Cleansing Gel
Toner-Forte
The cleanser is applied morning and night. The toner is only applied once a day and all you do is put about 4-5 drops (such a tiny amount) into the palm of one hand then with the fingers of the other hand you dab the toner ONLY onto the affected areas as this stuff boy is strong! But the good thing is I will have this bottle for ages! I am finding that I am needing less and less after each session of seeing Dee. You do need to be careful with the other parts of your face as it will really dry it out.
In regards to the Moisturiser you can read my blog on that here. I absolutely love it! My new fave, that's for sure!
I must admit when I first took a look in the mirror straight after she was done the first time, it wasn't pretty there were red marks all over my face and it was rather angry at me, so I wouldn't recommend doing this on a say when you have to go somewhere after. But the second day majority of those little bumps were gone and my skin looked visibly clearer! The second treatment was a week after and my skin looked my calmer and my makeup was going on much better. My last treatment was 2 weeks later and I cannot stop the comments I have been getting about my skin from my friends and co-workers. Loves it!!
After my treatments

It has been such a great boost of confidence and it makes me think, why oh why didn't I want to do something more proactive about my skin earlier? Did I not realise what could be done? Maybe you are like me as well, if your reading this and it rings bells, my advice to you is do something about it!!!
You do not have to put up with crap skin!!
My skin has never looked better so many people have said and I definitely agree. By Summer I was told I wouldn't need to wear makeup, a statement which, when I heard when I first met Dee I never believed. The work she does is so amazing because she is so passionate about what she does. Her greatest joy in life is getting people clear beautiful skin and educating people on whats right for you.
I am easily wearing less makeup during the week and virtually no makeup on the weekends, something I never thought I would do, and let me tell you I really am finally feeling more confident in my own skin.

Details: Steam and Squeeze costs $90 a session- with the difference she makes, it is beyond worth it!

Scrub a dub dub...

Skin Prep Scrub- $51

Everyone should have a good exfoliator in their bathroom, there I said it! I guess for some people leading the stressful lives that they do, fitting in yet another beauty product is hard, here are my top reasons why you should make the time.

1. It sloughs away all the dead skin cells your body has gotten rid of leaving glowing radiant skin

2. It encourages great cell turnover which in turn is greater skin regeneration.

 3. It unclogs your pours- which if you have read my other article is the downside of many of the beauty products we use which clog the pours in our skin, which prevents breakouts from occurring, yay!

4. Makes my moisturiser work twice as hard- by cleaning the skin of debris it means my moisturiser can seep deep into my skin making it so much more effective.

My fave that I am using at the moment is Dermalogica Skin Prep Scrub. This scrub uses natural corn cob meal that does wonders for my skins complexion and helps to maintain my skin in between facials as well. It also contains herbal extracts such as mallow, ivy and aloe vera which help to soothe and help to prevent over stimulation of my skin, extracts of arnica and cucumber help keep my skin as smooth as a babies bottom and refreshed.

To use: Once I have cleansed my skin in the shower I use a small amount and GENTLY using circular motions, work the product into my skin. Working gently is what my beautician Dee says is the most important factor. This product has tiny little granules and using elbow grease and really scrubbing is only going to harm your skin.

How frequently to use?: I use this twice a week to maintain the beautiful glow in my skin

Where can I buy it?: My fave place is Adore beauty online at www.adorebeauty.com.au

It's all about the nails....

I have a confession to make... I have acrylic nails. I know as a beauty lover it's rather frowned upon but I do. For me I am really bad with the upkeep of filling nails and I hate, read HATE when I paint my nails, only for them to chip the next day. So for me this is a total lazy girl thing!
The problem I face is what colour to paint them as I have to look at it and like it for 3 weeks!!
At the moment they are black which is a easy choice and one I have fallen back on many times. Right now I am looking for inspiration for my next choice.
Insert the nail bloggers...
I love that there are blogs out there specifically designed to give you the info on all the latest trends, colours, shapes, you name it!
I thought I would share my favourite Top 5 nail blogs I love!

1. Let's Go Sparkling- why I love this site is I am actually considering doing a sparkly nail polish as I have read about how textured nail polish is a huge trend right now.

2. Nail Juice- Gives honest reviews about all colours

3. Fab Your Nails- Holy moly have you seen these designs??

4. The Nail File- If you love her blog as much as I do at StuffthatIBought you will love her nail file blog too!!

5. The Daily Nail- is by far my favourite as the most interesting site. This amazing lady has undertaken the task to do a new nail polish design every day for a year! What a effort. I can barely think of something every 3 weeks!!

So at the end of all that I am now tossing up between black with sparkles or a turquoise colour... thoughts?

Nudie makeup?

If you're like most girls, you grew up wearing foundation, I know I did. There wasn't an alternative, that was just what you did. When I had my first consultation with Dee from the Clear Skin Clinic who I have mentioned quite a bit. She educated me on just how bad it really is for your skin. Basically you are putting like a mask over your skin which blocks your pours which does nothing good for your skin. What we should all be using is Mineral Powder Foundation!! About 2 months ago I bravely made the switch, old habits are hard to break. The 2 things I remembered someone once telling me was to buy a brand that initially came out with mineral foundation as this is what they do. (So not a big brand that has decided to give it a go) and make sure it doesn't contain talc.
Ok so with those 2 tips in mind I purchased Nude by Nature mineral foundation in the lightest shade from Priceline.

Natural Mineral Cover $39.95

I also purchased their brush that goes with it.

Application Brush $14.95
How to apply: I tap some of the powder onto the lid then with the brush I swirl into the powder. The tap the brush on the side of the lip so excess powder is shaken off. Apply brush to face is smaller circular patterns. The idea is that the you work the powder into your skin and can build up coverage if you have certain imperfections you would like to correct.
Benefits of Mineral Foundation: For one thing, it's all natural. The next and more important fact is that it lets your skin breathe! They even say you can wear this makeup to bed, it's that good for your skin. (I never do) I like that it actually lets the glow of my natural skin shine through as well.
If I am having a day where I am really tired (big bags under my eyes) or having a hormonal day (spots) I apply some liquid concealer then I apply the powder on top!

To be honest it does take some getting used to. At first I was like ummm wheres the coverage? But I think after so many years using liquid I am just so used to what I normally see.
These days I wouldn't dream of putting liquid on my face during the week, there's no need and my skin has definitely thanked me for it.
