Review: Alpha-H Gentle Daily Exfoliant

There has ben a trend to move away from rough grainy exfoliators to a powder to paste type formular of recent times. I have used Dermalogicas Daily Microfoliant before and I have really enjoyed using it so to me trying the Alpha-H Gentle Daily Exfoliant-$59.95 was a natural progression.
If you are not familiar with this type of product it goes like this... with very wet hands pour a serve equivilent to 2 teaspoons approx and mix into a paste which you then apply over your freshly cleansed face. Just a note on that, it is hard to actually build up a paste, it's more watery but still does the job.

As you all should know by now as I bang on enough about it, it is crucial to exfoliate your skin to encourage cell turnover, get rid of dead skin cells and generally makes your skin all glowy!

This particular product can be used daily and gives your skin a added boost after cleansing.

What they say: "Contains crushed, water-activated fruit enzymes derived from green papaya and the skin and leaves of pineapple. The exfoliation, is not abrasive, but still effortlessly removes dead and damaged skin cells, sweeps out congested pores and blackheads, reduces inflammation and uneven pigmentation, boosts moisture retention and creates a soft light-reflecting sheen across the complexion to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and sun damage. The enzymes in the formula works to break down keratin protein, helping to reduce hair shaft diameter and density while weakening stubborn facial hair and reducing re-growth."

Basically the enzymes from the fruit ingredients help to break down the dead skin cells which clog your pores leading to congestion and also blockages in your pores will actually enlargen them which is never something us girls want to happen.

On my skin it makes me feel really clean and has really helped keep my congestion at bay. It hasn't hurt the size of my pores either! (This is something I learnt the hard way over the years unfortunately)

Dermalogica Microfoliant- Great Daily Exfoliator

This Dermalogica product is one I have been hiding for a while and really should tell you all about it as it's amazing. The Dermalogica Microfoliant-$83.50 is a gem of a product. I love it as I wear a lot of makeup most days due to my work which means I really need that little bit of extra help to make sure my skin stays clean and pimple free from all the build up.
The way that this product works is that it is a rice based powder (nice and gentle) which to use it you have really wet hands and apply the powder and rub your hands together to activate the product and to turn it into a paste which you rub into your skin using circular motions.
I find that there are tiny little beads which really gently exfoliate your skin leaving it feeling cleaner, looking brighter and more clear- this is exactly what I need.
Since using this product for a while (I don't really use it every single day, but most days) it has really helped to get my breakouts under control.

I would highly recommend this product as a great addition to your skin care regime especially as it is suitable for all skin types.

Have you tried this before?

This is how you get soft skin: Review of Burt's Bees Sugar Scrub

I have been bursting to tell you about this product!!! This is the brand spanking new Burt's Bees Cranberry & Pomegrante Sugar Scrub-$29.95.
When you lift the lid on this winner you are consumed by the sweet, sweet aroma of the Cranberry and Pomegrantes. When you peek inside you can actually see the seeds and the sugar granules. This scrub also containing shea butter for long lasting smoothness.

To Apply: There has been mixed reports as to how you apply it either onto wet or dry skin and with what. What I do is dampen my skin in the shower then turn the shower off. With my fingers I apply the scrub from my toes up, with each body section. I apply the scrub in circular motions bring that circulation towards my heart. This is the similar way that you would dry body brush. I find this is the best way as you need that moisture to get better contact on your skin and you don't want too much or it will just wash it all away.

When I washed off the scrub my skin is beyond smooth. I could feel the shea butter which has left a light residue onto my skin which I can tell is going to make the smoothness last on my skin. After I got out of the shower and dried my skin not only did it smell amazing but the silky smoothness, oh my gosh I can't even explain it to you. I barely even needed to apply moisturiser after but I did as it is good to lock in that mositure and you have just given your skin a massive work out and did I mention the smell? I honesltly looked at the tub thinking... could I eat that? Only to read "not to be consumed" obviously I am not the first person to think this stuff looked good enough to eat!

The next day my skin was still baby smooth and I know this is going to be a regular purchase for me.

I will continue to use this product once a week for a good body shake up and to get really get the blood pumping and my skin oh so smooth.

You can find this product: at David Jones, Priceline and selected pharmacies.

Yum!!

Short & Sweet-How to Exfoliate Your Face

I know that like most beauty obsessed chicks out there we will tell you it is so important to exfoliate but do you know how and where?
I learnt through a recent Face Mapping Analysis with Dermalogica that the skin on my cheeks is a lot more sensitive then the rest of my face.
When you are exfoliating your face you need to let the product work its magic rather then rubbing it in so hard with elbow grease! Rubbing so hard will damage the soft layers on your face, I know in the past this is something I have been known to do. The product is designed with its little beads or chemicals to get rid of dead skin cells on the surface of your skin without you needing to go nuts with it.
When you are exfoliating focus your energies on your t-zone and your mouth and chin area.
I ever, ever so gently glide the product over my chest when I am in the shower just to maintain a clear, clean chest.
I try and exfoliate once a week, twice a week if my skin is particularily bad, you just need to have that continual turnover of new skin cells.

I hope this helps.

What exfoliator do you use?

Radiate your skin with this beautiful exfoliating body wash

Being the huge fan of Burt's Bees that I am this product was the next on my list to try. This product Burt's Bees Radiance Exfoliating Body Wash with Royal Jelly and Jojoba beads- $19.95. It really is wonderful. It has tiny little beads which are delicate on your skin, it smells wonderful, like all Burt's Bees products do slightly sweet.
It gently removes dead skin cells from the surface of your skin and I love to use it on my hand mittens when I am exfoliating my skin, the night before I fake tan in the shower. Not only does my skin feel delightfully smooth but I smell delicious!

You can buy Burt's Bees: In David Jones, Myer, Priceline and selected stores.

A liquid exfolliant? Aveda brings out the goods!

I was blogging yesterday about my recent spa treatment I had at the Rejuvenate Spa and Salon and one of the things I loved was that they used Aveda products, a brand I had been wanting to use for a long time.
The one product which really blew my mind was the Botanical Kinetics Exfoliant- $54.95.
This little baby is amazing. It is a liquid exfoliant which is used once a day at night time. The liquid removes all the remaining gunk, and the dead skin cells from the surface of your skin which as I have said before really amps ups your cell turnover making your skin amazing. By having a cleaner surface it means all your amazing moisturisers and cremes are going to work much more effectively.

It's key ingredients are salicylic acid which is great at cleaning your skin of any nasties as well as Lavender and German Chamomile which calm your skin. My skin is quite sensitive and it loves this!

I apply it at night after I have cleansed my skin instead of using a toner. I grab a cotton pad and dab the liquid onto it and then wipe the pad all over my face. I use 3 pads; one for each cheek and one for my forehead. After I wipe all over my cheek I take it all the way down my neck as well and I am constantly amazed at how dirty the cotton pad will be after!! So ya know it works.

This is really great if you, like me, apply a lot of product to your face as it is even more important to make sure you are starting with a completely clean slate each time otherwise that shiz will just build up!

Aveda Products are available through spas and salons.  For stockist details please call 1300 300 054.

Scrub a dub dub...

Skin Prep Scrub- $51

Everyone should have a good exfoliator in their bathroom, there I said it! I guess for some people leading the stressful lives that they do, fitting in yet another beauty product is hard, here are my top reasons why you should make the time.

1. It sloughs away all the dead skin cells your body has gotten rid of leaving glowing radiant skin

2. It encourages great cell turnover which in turn is greater skin regeneration.

 3. It unclogs your pours- which if you have read my other article is the downside of many of the beauty products we use which clog the pours in our skin, which prevents breakouts from occurring, yay!

4. Makes my moisturiser work twice as hard- by cleaning the skin of debris it means my moisturiser can seep deep into my skin making it so much more effective.

My fave that I am using at the moment is Dermalogica Skin Prep Scrub. This scrub uses natural corn cob meal that does wonders for my skins complexion and helps to maintain my skin in between facials as well. It also contains herbal extracts such as mallow, ivy and aloe vera which help to soothe and help to prevent over stimulation of my skin, extracts of arnica and cucumber help keep my skin as smooth as a babies bottom and refreshed.

To use: Once I have cleansed my skin in the shower I use a small amount and GENTLY using circular motions, work the product into my skin. Working gently is what my beautician Dee says is the most important factor. This product has tiny little granules and using elbow grease and really scrubbing is only going to harm your skin.

How frequently to use?: I use this twice a week to maintain the beautiful glow in my skin

Where can I buy it?: My fave place is Adore beauty online at www.adorebeauty.com.au

Really, really, really clean skin...

Ever clean your face without feeling really, really clean? Enter the new L'oreal Paris Perfect Clean.
To use this product you take the little circular exfoliator and pour a small amount onto the pad and in a circular motion work the product into your skin. What I loved about this product is how clear my skin felt after I used it. I really felt like I was thoroughly removing all the dirt and grime
from a long day off my face and the exfoliator pad felt really nice on my skin.

I will definitely be using all of this great cleanser and would recommend it to anyone who is in need of a good clean of their face.

Where can you find this little gem: Priceline, supermarkets and the ususal
